Starting and sticking to an exercise routine can be extremely rewarding. Exercise can bring a sense of reward and achievement, along with massive benefits to our physical health and mental wellbeing.

Here at O-health, we know finding the motivation to get started with an exercise routine can be challenging but staying active regularly pays off!

Here are some helpful tips to get you started:

1. Set realistic expectations

Some of us are guilty of setting our exercise goals too high and when we don’t achieve those goals, we get put off and disheartened. Start by setting some goals you know are very realistic for you to achieve!

2. Not all exercise results are immediate

Benefits of regular exercise can take several weeks before you start noticing improvements in strength, endurance and flexibility. Making exercise a part of your regular routine is vital.

3. There are some immediate effects from exercise

Exercise produces more dopamine in our system. This is the hormone responsible for improving mood and reducing stress. Sleep is also improved for those who exercise regularly compared to those with more sedentary lifestyles.

4. Find an exercise buddy

If you find it easy to make excuses not to exercise, you may benefit from finding yourself an exercise buddy. Plan your exercise with your buddy and you will be held more accountable to stick to it!

                     

5. Plan ahead

We know life can get busy and exercise can often take a back seat. Prioritise your health and plan when you are going to exercise. You are much more likely to stick to your exercise routine if you have scheduled in time to do so.

6. Enjoy your exercise

If you don’t enjoy your exercise routine, it will be challenging to maintain. Everyone is different, so find an exercise routine that suits you! Some people like to exercise alone and others like to socialise and exercise in groups.

At O-health, we value regular group exercise classes for all of the reasons mentioned above.
We have classes for all fitness levels throughout the week to make sure we can suit everyone who wants to join us!
